Independent where in the tech universe we set up camp, we are constantly surrounded by feedback to improve our way of finding solutions. Giving feedback is important and we often talk about techniques on how to give it most effectively, but we seldom address the art of receiving feedback. Receiving feedback can be hard: our default answer to positive praise may be “Njaah, I was just doing my job”.
Constructive feedback may be hard to accept or it may cause an emotional storm. By understanding why receiving feedback is sometimes hard we can become better in utilising the feedback we receive, as well as improve our skills as feedback-givers.
